That's the words that has been buzzing around for the past months. With all the machineries at their disposal and some civil servants that's been in the BN's paychecks all the while, nothing is impossible .. even if the high echelons of PR denying the facts. You can never dismissed the possibality of another coup is being cook up. Even with the in-house bickering of the ruling government or it component parties which seem to send ripples to the ground, but one can't dismiss the fact that it is all just another "sandiwara" to camouflage the true intention or to divert the attention.

Just hope that PR will be on their toes all the time not to repeat the same mistake ..

Lately, we've seen so many events that was mind boggling. Not to just the government, political parties and those bigwigs. Every now & then for the past 10 years, we've seen sort of reruns of events happened 10 years before ..

Coincidences ? .. maybe .. but not to those with conspiracy theories. Just look at the mainstream papers (which I'm not a fan) you just can't help to have the goosebump of reading the same kind of scenario years ago. Unity government ? Collapsing structures ? Party jumpers ? Death in custody ? Populist budget announcement ? Recycled government cabinet members ? .. just to name a few ..

As long as Malaysians don't do their homework .. we will stuck in the past for a very long time ..

Yet another by-election is looming ..

But this time, it's right in the backyard of the opposition stronghold, namely PR's PAS & PKR. Smack in the middle of Anwar's outpost, BN will pull all stops to make sure it stamp its mark. This will include all the govt machineries + press mights. With the spats that was highlighted profusely by the not well "informed" journalists namely Utusan Malaysia & Berita Harian, they maybe got the upper hand. But still, PR got ammos of their own ..

Some of the high profile dirty laundries of BN was uncovered plus the rhetorics of races drummed up by the big wigs of UMNO, voters level mind & perceptions will be the order of the day ..

But a level battle field ? Only God's intervention will see the day .. with about 70% of Malay registered voters heart to be won .. it's gonna be helluva day of recounts & scars ..

Will the royals be taking sides ? That's another story ...

We all thought after the public outcry for the Royal Committee (RC) for the mysterious demise of Teoh Beng Hock (TBH) in MACC hands, the govt. will set it up. Some may not realize that it was not what it seem to be as per announce.

Instead of the RC for the probe on the death, it was set up to look into MACC code of practice. For TBH probe, an inquest was annouce to look into it .. and will be head by a mere magistrate. What a croc ! I, for one, TRULY believe that THEY do HAVE something to HIDE. Why ? Because of ALL the nonsense excuses these SOBs been feeding us as if the Malaysians are nincompoops, and also THEY've been dragging their feet to act.

Guilty ? Cover-up ?

Armchair warriors who wrote comments on the Manik Urai by-election sitting comfortably from their study rooms based on information that they skimmed through the Internet at best hit the outer ring of the target if not missing hitting the board at all! It is interesting to note that many did simply just that -- write from afar basing their opinions on those who make a living on writing news.

I was there smack in the middle of the war, espionages and counter-strikes. And BN has never been dirtier.

The amount of money that changed hands with voters was simply unbelievably high that almost every household can have a one-month holiday to savour their fortune. Only the Almighty knows the extent of their guilt and no mortal soul can claim that what they did was immoral, as nobody knows who voted for whom, at least for most of us that is.

It is amazing what money can buy. Maybe RM50 per voter did not work anymore but RM500 hooked even the very hearts that loathe corruption. They reason in their heads that it was a gift and hence free from any sin whatsoever associated with it. It was a meagre sum to the haves but a windfall to the haves-not. For a household with three voters, they took home a month’s equivalent of a wage.

But in a climate of distrust alternative plans were laid in abundance. Coming from multiple sources, voters were spoilt for bounties. Some walked away with three sets of gifts each giving a person’s take-home present of RM1,500. All one had to do was to wait for the go-between to approach him or her. It was a case of supply outstripping demand.

Keeping people (read voters) at poverty level and on the brink of starvation almost always pays in the end. They can easily be bought. After all it is not often such a by-election comes their way. Opportunity comes-a-knocking, it is a gift from above.

RM500 per voter was at most RM5Million. Considering three sources each armed with RM10Million, a total of RM30Million were spent with RM15Million going directly to voters and the rest as usual fall off the gravy trains into the hands of local warlords ....."

With all the commotion circulating his demise .. and someone is making big bucks out of it .. not to forget rumours milling (and still does) surrounding his strange lifestyles .. one can not be overlooking his greatness in entertainment. For 40 over years of being in the business, he really do earned the tag - King of Pop. With all due respect, the world must recognize this achievement .. and rightly so .. they do.

But still I view him as a confused man, who were driven to the brink of madness by his surroundings. People whom he entrusted, people whom he adored & maybe people who he loved, never really do, really try to help him to keep his life on track. Right to the very end, I believe no one really put his mind in a real perspective .. just because he's the golden goose.

Whatever it is .. it's all over.

At times like now where people struggles for survival in our daily life, there are still some still oblivious of the situation ..

This particular report in the local daily caught my attention :

".. She said since Todt, who was appointed last month, was serving and promoting the country on a voluntary basis, it was only fair that the government covered his expenses.

“Just because he is volunteering his services, you cannot expect him to pay out of his own pocket.

“This budget is not for his personal use, it is for the expenses incurred when he meets top people from television and the media.

“Besides, RM1 million in Europe gets you nothing nowadays,” she said at the Parliament lobby..."

The ’she’ refered to here is a minister in charge of Tourism.

What an attitude. And the people she was trying to give our precious RM to are not those who were living in squatters, kampong houses even to the homeless (I consider those who rents are homeless .. don't get me wrong). They are jetsetters, celebraties, own an island .. Come on, in these hard times of economics & epidemic uncertainties .. we don't need to welcome the tourists excessively to the extend of bringing harm to ourselves and riches to those who already rich ! Try to be in the shoes of the common people. Try to look at your own face when you see your account balance of 1 digit in the bank .. every month. At the same time try to jostle yourself to get into the bus/LRT/komuter day in day out.

Then tell us, the common people .. do we deserve all that ? Or you just don't give a shit ?(no apologies neccessary)

This issue to me .. was really close to the heart ..

Why ? Because my son was smack in the middle of it. So as for those whose child started primary six years ago. At that time, nobody really knew how it will turn out. I started to have doubt about it as soon as the teachers was struggling with the extensive courses to make them proficient enough to teach in English. The most struggling was Malay teachers who was caught off guard with the decision. But off they went .. with classes abandoned with other teachers struggling to reschedule their activities. It went on for quite some time ..

So, the teachers were back. But .. they still struggles with new vocabularies even to the extent that some of them never even heard of it before. So .. what did the children get ? Extra classes .. tuitions .. one-on-one teachers (some of them did make money out of it .. but that's another story). These children really on a lot of pressure (mostly suburbans) especially from the parents which was also on a lot of pressure (try to do math/science from their workbook then you'll know). The teachers was on the brink of frustration .. they were unprepared with these new kind of teaching approach, so .. they'll make do with what they know ..

So that's the cycle for our children & teachers as the guinea pigs for someone's half baked vision. But someone did laughed their way (all the way) to the bank at the expense of our future.

Daylight robbery .. is all I can say ..

English IS language ..

Language IS literature ..

Just keep it THAT way ..

Don’t break the mirror on the wall

MARCH 25 – One of the common things about all human beings is that all of us make mistakes at one time or another. To err, after all, is human.

What distinguishes a clever human from a dumb one is that the former will learn from his mistakes whereas the latter will keep repeating them.

Leaders are human and, therefore, leaders too will make mistakes. But a clever leader will learn from mistakes and become “cleverer”. The dumb one, however, will keep on shooting himself in the foot without realising it.

The litmus test of a good leadership is not that it will not make mistakes but that it realises its mistakes and takes steps to correct the shortcomings and, at the same time, makes sure that it will not make the same mistakes again.

When democracy was at is infancy in the West, politicians realised that sometimes a mistake had to be pointed out before those who committed it became aware of it.

So they realised that the best way to get feedback on whether they had made mistakes was to have a free press.

As 18th century British statesman Edmund Burke once professed: “Three Estates in Parliament; but in the reporters’ gallery yonder, there sat a fourth Estate more important far than they all”.

The three estates that he referred to are the pillars of democracy – the Executive, the Legislative and the Judiciary.

The “fourth estate” is the Press. To the westerner, the press plays an important role of a watchdog, and the press gives valuable feedback to the government.

A free press is like a mirror; the reflection in it will tell those who stand before the mirror whether they have button their shirts properly, whether they have zipped up their pants, whether there are blemishes on their faces, and so on.

All of us depend on the mirror on the wall to give us an idea whether our countenance is presentable.

Likewise, a government needs a mirror to see whether it is doing all right or whether it has committed errors that might affect adversely the livelihood of the people.

To a wise government, a free press is the mirror that it needs to see its reflection.

In his book “Age of Turbulence”, Alan Greenspan pointed out that not a single nation which allows a free press suffers from starvation; not in the past and not likely in the future.

It is because, with a free press, a government can detect a mistake before it is too late. The press will give the necessary feedback like an early warning system.

So a free press is not only the fourth pillar of democracy, it is a friend of those governing, even if the press publishes writings that may be critical of certain policies or the decisions of these governing figures.

A good friend is one that gives you counsel when you have done wrong; not one that praises you even if you have made a mistake.

If it is a friend, then it should not be stifled. It should be allow to publish what is on the ground.

A free press in this modern era encompasses not just the printed media, but the electronic press, as well as the blogs.

I do not know about the reasons for the recent banning of the two political newspapers, but I hope that this is not the beginning of a clampdown on the blogs, the newspapers as well as on the freedom of speech.

No one would be stupid enough to break the mirror on his wall just because he or she does not wish to see his or her own ugly countenance.

Breaking the mirror will not help to turn an ugly countenance to a presentable one.

We must realise that, even without the mirror, an ugly countenance will still remain ugly.

Without the mirror, there is really no hope of remedial steps to address the ugliness and turn it to a more pleasant looking one.

A clever leader therefore should not clamp down on the media and the blogs. Instead he should take steps to nurture press freedom.

By doing so, he would have taken an important step to prevent shooting himself in the foot.

Hills & Rod ?

Simply put, the Bukit Gantang, Bukit Selambau & Batang Ai by-election will be a huge test of people's confidence of the incoming PM. Kinda like a do-or-die mission for the fellow. But from the run-ins, it seems that the govt don't have the confidence of winning it lawfully. Permits for 2 of the printed media runs by the so-called Opposition (can they be called Opposition anymore ?) were revoke until further notice (they said 3 months). This will hurt the dissemination of info to the people aligned with them. Though the Net will provide the neccessary feed for those connected, for those who just don't have it are hoping for the words of mouth by friends since the mainstream media just spins any story to the brink of fictionous articles and reports.

Now, it seems that they are denying the other parties a freedom of speech with a total abuse of the security forces namely PDRM. They were taunted, fired upon with tear gas and sprayed with chemical water. Some even threatened with the ISA & Sedicious Act. With the outgoing PM still sleeping, things really getting out of hand.

Such a democratic country huh ? They just want to hang on to whatever left of their so-called power. Really testing God's patience ..

The simple truth is .. they just can't accept defeat .. for a lot of excess baggages to hide ...

Yesterday, we were told to buy a RM60b balloon to keep the economy afloat .. for a period of 2 years. Is it sufficient enough ?

For all the hoopla of "our economy & fundamental is strong" catchphrase, they suddenly made a U-turn saying otherwise. Can't they hear the cry to stop the rot months ago ? Or when the signal kept popping out everywhere for an intervention. With every analysis by economy expert all over the world said "be prepared", we were so coop-up with other trivial things, even the mainstream media keep jazzing up things to the extend that we just don't know what is right anymore (at least for those brainless yes-men).

Maybe it's not too late for the nation to subdue the downturn .. but sad to say that hundreds of thousand souls lost the fight .. those minnows that lived day by day on the shoestring budget. Even those so-called middle class people are getting close to the brink of personal depression.

What is happenning & unfolding in the Silver State right now can be summed up as an ego stand-off between the past & present. One was a chauvanist brats (and still is) and the other one was trying to get the job done. Constitiunal wise, the legal govt. got every right to the House since it was voted legally by the course of law. The spoilt brats of the past just could not take defeat gracefully, hence the coup (more like kidnapping I would say).

But whatever it is, the people would like to see how the civil servants involved reacts to this so-called uncalled for stand-off (and maybe the Royals too). Whether it'll be an amusing or bemusing ending ..

As the rhyme goes .. it hits us over & over again but as usual we tend to forget until it happenned again.

Hulu Kelang .. full of beautiful hills that overlooking our capital that will make anyone glee with envy or even jealousy to those who had a piece of stake up there. But after the Highlands Tower episode in the early 90s, some questions started to crop up. Are we really safe ? Is it worth the investment ? Do we really need it ? Some even smirked at the question of safety during heavy downpour or floods. They felt safe since they're on a higher ground. But not anymore ....

Since shortcuts just to save a few thousands by overlooking the neccessary trenching or even drainage and proper maintenance of one, forever we will be cursed for levelling the slopes .. and for living in one. And people who got stakes in Bukit Antarabangsa knew that they're responsible for their actions as for the developers & all that involved.

Let's not forget .. God is great!

As the economists said, the 10 years cycle was up. So the whole world were on recession again.

Some won't admit it but for those unlucky 3rd world country, they were getting deeper and deeper in trouble. Even Iceland was crushed by the economic meltdown. Wise men said, it was all due to the US brand of economy that was shoved to the whole of their trading nations. Us included. But luckily, we were not that seriously hit .. not yet. Unless some corrective action taken, we'll be in the slump for at least 3 years. Imagine the credit crunch that's already being felt by the ordinary middle class people.

So the US will get a new President, Barrack Obama. Malaysia will get a new PM (go figure) .. but the question is : What About Us ?

Coupled with the bombshell by Khazanah on some not-so-good-but-assummed-good CEO/CFO of a big GLC 100% pay rise, the peasants starting to grumble louder. It's been a couple of weeks already after the hoopla of the price hike of gasoline. The people starting to feel the heat of the chain effect of the hike. First, some basic essentials. Now food & any little things that related with gasoline .. like bread, butter, milk. Huh ?? what all of these gotta do with the gasoline ? Well .. transporting these goods requires that commodity from mother earth. And some wacko asked the peasants to change ones lifestyle .. Funny huh .. for starters, those scraping from the bottom of the foodchain gonna eat what ? Their own doodle ?? What a croc ..

I can bet that in 2 months time, someone gonna have to pay for the misery caused to the people ... or maybe some joker will come up with some kinda Mr Bean way of solution to the crisis.

Until then, fasten your belt s tight everybody ...

Petrol Hike .. Again ...

Well .. there you go, another hike just been enforced last week. Missed out the adventure of lining up for the last drop of petrol at the old pricing. The hell with it anyway, you still have to pay at RM2.70 per litre the next day .. no prize was given for those who managed to jostle for the pump nozzle anyway.

What next .. our soul ?

Ahh .. at last, I can spare a few minutes to post something in here.

And what a time right now. The world's getting primed for a new session of recession maybe ? All prices going up due to the soaring pricing of oil per barrel. Why eh .. one might ask. Well for me, I would say .. ask those SOBs who got nothing better to do than creating all sort of chaos. Who ? Well think hard .. who started it ? Why now ?

Don't want to drag this blog into sort of a political agenda kind of thing, just highlighting some points for all of you to ponder.

My opinion ? .. I just want World Peace .. that's all ..
